What is grit blasting?

Grit blasting is a process used to clean, strengthen (peen), or polish metal surfaces. It propels small pieces of ‘grit’ at a high velocity against a surface using a blasting machine. The impact of the grit removes surface contaminants, rust, paint, or other unwanted materials from the surface of the metal.

Where is grit blasting used?

Grit blasting is used in a variety of industries, including construction, manufacturing, and maintenance. It is commonly used to prepare metal surfaces for painting or coating, to remove rust and corrosion, to clean and polish surfaces, and to improve the strength and durability of metal surfaces.

We provide grit blasting services for the following:
  • Preparation for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
  • Cleaning
  • Emergency Maintenance and Coating
Grades of cleanliness

There are different types of shot blasting, depending on the type of surface being treated and the desired outcome. The standard grades of cleanliness for abrasive blast cleaning that LRES-UK can achieve in accordance with BS EN ISO 8501-1 are:
